Your Credit
Maintaining a good credit score will play a major role in making a successful personal and financial future for yourself. Your credit history can allow you many opportunities or can keep you from having them.
When you use credit, you are borrowing money that you promise to pay back within a specified period of time. A credit score is a statistical method to determine the likelihood of an individual paying back the money he or she has borrowed.
Creditors will use this to determine if they can risk extending credit to you. Many of todays neccesities are established by determining ones credit such as getting a home loan through a mortgage company, renting an apartment or home, getting a credit card, or even getting a job as some employers often make decisions about your future based on your credit history.
It is wise to check your credit frequently to ensure that nothing has been reported incorrectly. There is typically a small charge for this service. The three primary credit bureaus are Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. You should use caution when requesting a copy of your credit report. Never give personal information to someone unless you initiated the contact and you are certain that they can be trusted.
